New in Dynamics NAV 2015 – Enhanced Cues on the Role Center

Cues, any idea what it is? Ah yes, a bunch of clickable tiles with numbers of Sales Orders, Invoices and so on. They first appeared in Dynamics NAV 2009 RTC, went square blue in 2013R2. Now in 2015 this has changed into “Business Indicators”, with colors, images and different kind of numbers.

Benefits

Microsoft calls the Role Center Cues in Nav 2015 a Business Moodboard. When you login as user you have an overview over your business by the key performance indicators (KPIs) on the Role Center. GREEN means “have a nice day” and RED goes for something like “everyone on board and get to work”. Anyway, the idea is to give a brief summary of the business by actual facts.

Changes

In the past cues were based on FlowField, showing mainly the amount of documents. But it was not a real indication whether this was good or bad. Now we have the possibility to show any number of any calculated field. Show currencies or percentage, show actual open posts in amounts with a colored indicator.

Main options:

  • Colored Indicators (configurable by user)
  • Calculation on normal fields
  • Custom Data: You can for example put €, $, %, + or – in front or after the value.
  • Choose between 21 standard icons to show in the cues

How it works

If we take a look at the cues above we have 20 Sales Orders which has a YELLOW colored border, meaning it’s neither good nor bad but somewhere in between. If we decide that this should be unfavorable and therefore colored RED, the user can change the threshold.

Click on Set Up Cues and change the Thresholds to change the colored indicators as you want to have them yourself. Let’s say we change Threshold 2 of the Sales Orders – Open into 16.

You can see that now the box is checked on Personalized. That way you can keep track on what is standard, and what is personalized.

As you can see, the indicator on Sales Orders – Open is now RED. Action required, do something!
