New in Dynamics NAV 2015 – Mandatory Fields

September 17, 2014 Posted by Geert Dynamics NAV 2015 No Comments

Dynamics NAV 2015 is launched and has quite a few new features. One of them is called Application Simplification.

Mandatory Fields is one of the Simplification items in Dynamics NAV 2015 as part of what Microsoft calls Simplified UX. Simplified UX also contains:

  • Auto Filled No. Fields
  • Totals on Sales and Purchase Documents
  • Simplified Pages

Benefits

With the indication of fields being mandatory, you have a better overview of the page and is easier to process, since you instantly know which fields are most important.

Mandatory Fields

When you enter data on pages in Microsoft Dynamics NAV, certain fields are marked with a red asterisk. The red asterisk means that the field must be filled to complete a certain process that uses the field, such as posting a transaction that uses the field value. See for example the Customer Card below.

This also applies for example on the Order Lines:

At the moment this only works for fields which are mandatory by default. The difference is that it’s visible now. Setting an asterisk to a field can be done in the Development Environment with property “ShowMandatory” is True. Hopefully in the future it will be configurable as well.

There is however no control over the field itself, if it is filled or not since this is only a visual sign.
